What is The Pop-Litical Buzz?

The Pop-Litical Buzz is where pop culture and politics meet because who says you can’t love both. A Gen Z-centered publication (created by a Gen Zer), The Pop-Litical Buzz is dedicated to covering U.S. pop culture, politics, and how the two overlap.

As a subscriber, you will get a weekly newsletter in your inbox sharing the top headlines that concern both spheres and insight into why it matters. Additionally, you will receive media recommendations, summarizes of recent content and previews of upcoming posts, and feature articles every month (e.g, retrospective essays, exclusive interviews, and enterprise stories).

Who’s behind The Pop-Litical Buzz?

Alisha Allison is a graduate journalism student with a love of pop culture and political science background. She has bylines in Her Campus, where she is a National Writer, for the entertainment vertical. She loves talking and writing about the trending media, viral moments, and politics (unbiasedly of course). Outside of The Pop-Litical Buzz, you can usually find her reading a novel, watching a TV show, film, or long video essays on YouTube, spending time with friends and family, and listening to pop, indie, and R&B music.

Writing

If you are interested in writing a feature article for the following sections: “That Time When,” “In This Moment,” or “NY Buzz,” reach out to pitches@thepopliticalbuzz.com. You may also contact that email address if you are a journalist with 1-2 years of experience interested in covering breaking news and is able to have a quick turnaround time for an article with great copy.

Guidelines:

  • Email subjects must be modeled after the following: “PITCH: [Proposed Headline]

  • Your email should explain who you are, what your story would be about, and why this story would cater to our audience in 1-2 paragraphs.

  • Then, share your experience and add hyperlinks to author pages or a portfolio.

Please note that:

  • If your pitch is accepted, you will receive an email requesting you to fill out a quick form for more information. This is tedious (I know) but it is for record-keeping and to ensure we are on the same page before proceeding.

  • You must be able to write with this publication’s editorial voice and style in mind and adhere to editorial standards of accurate, unbiased reporting.

  • You must follow the internal style guide, which is modeled after AP Style.

Social Video Journalism

If you are a journalist comfortable appear on camera and have experience (at least 1 year is preferred), A like to post video content for breaking news and recaps of the weekly newsletter, “This Week’s Buzz.” Please fill out this form if you are interested.

Please note: You cannot be both the writer and video journalist for one breaking news story.
